Fourth of July Fire Safety
The National Fire Protection Association produced a “Fireworks” report which provided estimates of fire damage and associated losses caused by fireworks through 2013. According to this report, fireworks caused an estimated 15,600 reported fires in the U.S., including 1,400 structure fires, 200 vehicle fires, and 14,000 outside and other fires in 2013. Sparklers and Firecracker damage accounts for over half of injuries caused by fireworks. The holidays are a time for celebration and taking preventive measures as well as making sure that all precautions are taken are vital to ensuring that your Fourth of July night is not affected by a self-created disaster. It is also important that fireworks are used in a safe location away from buildings and other housing facilities that could be affected by damage.
